Washington Irving Library

Lehrer Architects is honored to lead the transformation of the Old Washington Irving Library Building, a 1926 architectural gem on the National Register of Historic Places. Closed since 1999, the building will become a dynamic multimedia center under our direction, preserving its historic integrity. Preservation is paramount, with special attention to the exterior design. Beyond structural renovation, the new library will showcase South Los Angeles's culture and history through grassroots archives and research, amplifying the impact while respecting the building's rich heritage.

Preserving Historic Essence. Invigorating Place and Programming.
