Lehrer Architects collaborated with the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety to create the innovative "YOU-ADU," a pre-approved, plan-check ready, standard plan for a single-bedroom Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) for residents of the City of Los Angeles. Available for free download on the City of Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety website, the design prioritizes accessibility, affordability, seamless permitting, and community placemaking. The flexible layout accommodates multiple orientations, with a clever configuration optimizing open spaces and privacy between the main house, garden, and ADU. Expanding housing solutions in response to Los Angeles' crisis, the "YOU-ADU" sets a new standard for accessible, community-oriented housing.
