East Rancho Apartments

Lehrer Architects' focus in designing this duplex for 10 formerly homeless teens in Compton was on "at-promise" youth, emphasizing light, openness, and optimism. Prioritizing infill lots, we navigated regulations to create safe, beautiful spaces, maximizing buildable units. From secure, private areas to shared spaces, the design fosters continuity and connection, extending into the community with balconies and sightlines. Generous roofs capture sunlight, infusing vitality. Overcoming budgetary and code challenges, East Rancho Apartments provide beauty, dignity, and design to formerly homeless teens. An innovative team, including architects, contractors, developers, financiers, and service providers, involved community organizers throughout the process. Beyond standard outreach requirements, the project stands as a source of community pride, aligned with local priorities.

All residents will be provided with a "full range of case management, mental health, substance use disorder, education, and employment services to assist toward their goal of independent living."
